Subliminal Messages

A subliminal message is a message embedded within another form of media, such as audio or video. The subliminal message is imperceptible to the listener or viewer, such as audio played quietly enough that it is masked by the sound of music, or in the case of visuals a message displayed for only a fraction of a second, imperceptible to the viewers conscious mind.

For the purpose of self-help, subliminal messages are often used much like hypnotherapy read aloud; instructing the listener on how to deal with their problem, and offering positive affirmations. The difference of course, is that these suggestions and messages would be played underneath another audio track such as peaceful music or nature sounds, so quietly or fused with the other track as to be unheard by the listeners conscious mind.

The subliminal messages are still picked up by the listener's subconscious however, and are theoretically still absorbed as well as; if not better than when read aloud to the user in a traditional manner.

While most of us have heard a story or two about the amazing power of persuasion subliminal advertising has, the reality is there's still little supporting evidence that subliminal techniques, be they for advertising, self-help or other uses is particularly effective.

At Self-Help Audio we don't use subliminal messaging on any of our programs. When compared to tried and true non-subliminal techniques, there's simply no reason to use what the scientific community and our own in-house tests confirm, they really don't work all that well.
