Self-Hypnosis is the act of reaching a hypnotic state without the aid of a hypnotist, therapist or other person (or persons) present to help. Self Hypnosis can be accomplished using a variety of methods, from quiet meditation to audio and visual aids. Like all forms of hypnosis, the process begins with what's referred to as the induction phase. While they may vary in their approach, most induction methods are designed with the same goal in mind; to put the user in a very relaxed state both physically and mentally, making them receptive to the hypnotic suggestions to come. | When induced through audio aids such as binaural beats, environmental audio, voice coaching, or any combination of audible techniques - the hypnotic suggestions will usually be read aloud to the user, allowing them to fully relax and absorb the suggestions being made after induction is complete. In the case of meditative self-hypnosis, once the user has induced a state of self hypnosis they may simply repeat desired suggestions to themselves, be it aloud or as an internal dialogue. A person may also induce a hypnotic state using one technique then receive suggestions via another, or combine techniques as well. For example; you could meditate quietly, then receive suggestions played from a CD after a set period of silence allowed for induction. | | The particular hypnotic suggestions used vary depending on one's goals; but will work best when: The suggestions are believable: Being in a receptive state doesn't mean the listener will believe anything, so suggestions work best when truthful and positive. "Quitting smoking will make you feel better" is effective, "Next time you light a cigarette you'll be disgusted" may be far-fetched for a long time smoker yearning for that next cigarette. The suggestions are desirable: Because you're deciding on what suggestions to receive through self hypnosis, they probably will reflect your objectives and be desirable accordingly - but phrasing and methodology still counts. Focusing on the positive aspects of change will work best; "Losing weight will make me feel fit and look great" is desirable, "I am fat and need to lose weight" is not, despite having the same objective. When a person is not only in a receptive state, but believes and desires the suggestions given to them, they will be readily accepted by the mind. |
